The Gaming Giant Recruits Popular Battle Royale Producer to Revitalize Challenged Action Game Project Ethos

The renowned publisher has secured Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the development team at 31st Union, which is currently working on the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Change Comes After Mixed Response

Brinkman takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' disappointing initial reveal last autumn.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer informed team members about this strategic move through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the need for a distinct game identity.

Ismailer expressed that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a renewed focus, aiming to address gamer demands.

Trend of Strategic Acquisitions

The news echoes a similar action taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the BioShock development group.

Here is the entire message from Ismailer's communication:

Team—

I know you all just completed your town hall - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the positive developments. Previously I shared you all a note, I stated the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and creative creators we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to continue.”

With your dedication and flexibility, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The gamer responses from last fall’s Project ETHOS playtest was enlightening. It validated the appeal of a action-packed game but indicated we still had work to do. It uncovered the necessity for a sharper brand.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You embraced the criticism to mind and overhauled the title with a renewed vision - one that’s ready to fulfill its promise to our audience.

The belief in this project grows every day. To boost the remarkable advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce the new hire as the incoming Lead of 31st Union. Following several months of conversations, he comes aboard us on the specified date.

His management and background in the competitive gaming genre is considerable, having dedicated the recent years creating and managing some of the most well-known titles in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.

Let’s together in greeting him next week. We are all looking forward to persist witnessing the development of the game in the months to come.

The President

Experience of the Incoming Leader

Brinkman currently serves in the position of executive producer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. Brinkman earlier worked at Treyarch and Activision in various production roles on the iconic franchise games, and, before that, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Game Information and Concept

The upcoming game was announced in October 2024 in conjunction with a community playtest. Then, the developers presented the title as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an exciting evolution on the genre."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in real-time to suit your personal playstyle," the description explains. "Take on the competition with new abilities, challenges, and obstacles that shift every round. Will you leave securely with your valuable rewards? Or take a risk, put it on the line, and trust your group can earn top ranking? The choice is in your hands."

Project Ethos has not yet received an official launch window or consoles, but fans can look forward to additional details as production continues.
